Organizing a children's party? We have 10 tips for you.

You're going to organize a children's party, great! But what do you need to think about? And what do you arrange at what time? Yes, a children's party requires some organization, but with good planning, you won't overlook anything. Below, we have listed 10 tips for you. Let the party begin!

Tip 1. Discuss the date of the party with the friends’ parents
Make sure to check well in advance whether the date works forthe friends. Especially if you want to plan the party on a weekend or during a holiday, many children will already have other plans. Plus, the birthday child might be really disappointed if certain friends can’t come. And if you plan ahead, you’ll have the best chance that all the friends can make it. That’s the fun part!

Tip 2. Involve the birthday child in planning the party
The party is for the birthday child. Let him or her help decide what they’d like to do. This can lead to some really great ideas.

Tip 3. How many children should you invite, and who should be invited?
The general rule most parents follow is roughly the birthday child’s age plus one (the birthday child included). And if you’re driving the children yourself, it’s obviously helpful if they all fit in the car(s). Decide together with your child which children to invite.

Tip 4. Think about the practical details
Will the children be brought home, or will someone pick them up—and will they have eaten by then? What kind of clothes should they wear, and is there anything else they need to bring?

Tip 5. The invitation
Are you making them yourselves? Or are you buying them, conveniently pre-printed at the local bookstore? And how will you hand out the invitations? At some schools, they aren’t allowed to be handed out in class (since that might make those who aren’t invited feel left out). In that case, turn it into a fun bike ride to drop them off at the invitees’ mailboxes.

Tip 6. Groceries
Of course, no kids’ party is complete without a delicious cake and some drinks. Will you pick them up yourself, have them delivered, or—if you’re not hosting the party at home—arrange for the cake and lemonade to be provided at the venue? Candy and a tasty snack will make the party perfect. Want to keep it healthy? Here are a few tips:

  • Fruit skewers
  • Making muffins with healthy ingredients such as apples, bananas, and nuts
  • Ice cream made from fruit
  • Many children love egg cakes
  • Make a delicious fruit smoothie
  • Chips? Make your own tasty vegetable chips.

Tip 7. Allergies
Ask in advance about any special considerations, such as allergies.

Tip 8. Phone numbers
While you’re gathering information, ask for the parents’ phone numbers. In case something happens, it’s very helpful to be able to reach the parents. The children’s party might run late, so it’s only polite to let them know in a timely manner.

Tip 9. Fun Decorations
You can make a kids’ party extra festive with fun decorations like streamers and balloons. If you’ve chosen a theme, it’s fun to match the decorations to it. And of course, don’t forget the candles for the cake.

Tip 10. Goodie Bags
When the kids head home, it’s nice to give them a little something to take with them. And the birthday child will love handing these out. You can give them a bag of tasty candies. If you think they’ve had enough sweets, you can also give them other fun little things. A bouncy ball, bubble wand, craft supplies, or a fun photo from the party with all the kids in it. A fun, lasting memory!
